It seems really weird and awkward to start a Facebook fan page for yourself, but everyone on Etsy and beyond seems to have one and it should be a really easy way to let people know of events, etc. It’s not the same as your normal profile– I think it’s geared toward business and professional applications. So if you wanna keep up with my illustration news and events, feel free to follow my Page as a fan!
It’s pretty pathetic and empty right now, which is why I need some fans. Leave a comment and say “hi!” and I will go check out your Facebook Page too!

I know, it seems that everyone is doing this! I am confused by it. Do you post photos of your items onto it? I have resisted posting actual images of my art on Facebook so far because don’t they have a rule that they own anything you post? Jeez.
There’s a big hubbub about the images but after I read up on it I think people are making too big a deal of it. I don’t think Facebook’s intention is to steal people’s stuff (I’m more worried about how when people die or commit crimes, their Facebook pics can end up on the news, etc. Luckily I don’t plan on dying or committing a crime soon!), I think they are trying to make sure that they can legally keep your messages and posts up even if you quit FB. However, the way they worded it is awful, adding in stuff they really don’t NEED a license to, and with the outcry I think they will end up changing that soon enough, which is good because it sucks as it is. Anyway… I may be stupid to not worry, and if you are worried you can make sure to have a big watermark on all your pics, or not show them. I do think that facebook apps are exempt from the stuff they have license to use, so your Etsy mini should be fine?
Anyway, you can post photos to the FB Page, share events, message your fans, etc. Like a mailing list sort of. I’ll let you know how it goes for me!
cool, thanks jade!
